Southwest Brings More Options to San Diego and Announces New Routes

Southwest Airlines announced that they are expanding their operations in San Diego with four new routes starting this coming Spring.  Southwest also announced new flights from New York’s LaGuardia and Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson airports.  This comes on the tails of recent announcements made by both Delta and Alaska Airlines as they both are adding services out of Seattle and Salt Lake City respectively.

Southwest announced that beginning on April 8, 2014 they will add nonstop service to New Orleans and then starting on June 8, 2014, Southwest will add nonstop service to Orlando, Portland, OR and Seattle.

“We are pleased to offer these new service options for our San Diego customers,” said Andrew Watterson, Southwest Airlines Vice President Network Planning and Performance.  “San Diego is an extremely important market to Southwest Airlines, and we believe the addition of these new nonstop destinations demonstrates our commitment to the San Diego community.”

Beginning May 11, 2014, Southwest will expand services at New York’s LaGuardia Airport due to the recent slot reallocation from the merger of American Airlines and US Airways.  Southwest is increasing service between LaGuardia and Nashville, Houston (Hobby), Chicago (Midway) and Akron-Canton, Ohio.

The adding of routes continues in Portland, Oregon where Southwest is adding new nonstop flights to Baltimore (BWI), Chicago (Midway) and Houston (Hobby). Additionally, new service is being added between Milwaukee and Washington D.C.’s National Airport and between Boston and Akron-Canton, Ohio.

Lastly, as Southwest finishes up integrating AirTran Airways into the Southwest family, new nonstop service from Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson International Airport includes service to Detroit, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Milwaukee and Pittsburgh.
