Denver, Colorado

Sitting at 5,280 feet above sea level, Denver has long been known as the Mile High City. Located east of the Rocky Mountains, Denver is a perfect year-round gateway. From summer hiking to fantastic skiing destinations during the colder winter months. But there’s much more to Denver. In fact, in recent years, the city has seen an influx of new residents, a revitalized downtown setting, and much more.

Denver Basics

Time Zone: Mountain Time Zone (GMT-7 in Standard Time). Observes Daylight Savings Time (mid-March through early November)

Population: Metro Denver – 2.94 million (21st largest in the United States)

Currency: United States Dollar ($)

Electricity: 110v – 60Hz. Type A or Type B

Weather: Winters are mild with an average daily high temperature of 45 degrees Fahrenheit and days reaching 60 degrees are not uncommon. In summer, Denver enjoys low relative humidity, and the average daily high temperature in August is a mild 86 degrees Fahrenheit. The mild weather is due in part to the city’s altitude of 5,280 feet above sea level.

The weather in Denver can change quite quickly throughout the year. One day it can be snowing, and the next day it can be extremely warm. Basically, be prepared for anything. Plus, since Denver sits at a higher elevation, remember to stay hydrated and apply sunscreen.

Airport: Denver International Airport (DEN) is served by many domestic and international carriers. The airport is located approximately 24 miles east of downtown Denver.

Transit: RTD is Denver’s transportation service. RTD operates numerous bus, light rail, and train routes throughout the Denver region. The A-Line Commuter train offers convenient, and direct service between downtown Denver and Denver International Airport. The A-Line costs $10.50 one way, runs every multiple times each hour during peak periods, and takes just under 40 minutes from end-to-end.

Rail Service: The Amtrak California Zephyr (San Francisco-Denver-Chicago) stops at Union Station. During the ski season, Amtrak and the Winter Park Resort, operate the weekend-only Winter Park Express between Denver and Winter Park.
